Guangzhou mayor leads mass swim in polluted river

Leaders of the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou led thousands in a "swimathon" across the Pearl River on Sunday to trumpet its recent cleanup -- at a time of mounting water pollution crises across the country.

Why Reuter has the mass swim event in their news brief?In considering of the big picture,such as industried area Taihu Lake were recently blanketed with toxic green-blue algae,and the same pollution problem even go further to the less prosperous West of Dian Lake, Qunming,Guangzhou's "swimathon" event seems to be much impressive than its first mass swim  event last year.

There have been an episode become the talk of town before the event.Nanfang Daily,the mouthpiece paper of Guangdong municipal Province,misquoted an environmental expert Ma Jun's saying that toxic green-blue algae found in Pearl River as well. The story was soon picked up by a Hongkong Daily WenWeiPo(文汇报) ,and Hongkong medias was alert, rushing to get the updates.Whilst Hongkong resident had their drinking water from Dongjiang(East River东江), a branch of Pearl River. Ma Jun later issued a statement,affirming that he referred to Taihu Lake with toxic green-blue algae instead of Pearl River. The authority seemed to be quietly casual about such an incident of media information-mishandling practice,no scolding occurred eventually,despite the fact that the "swimathon" was about to launch a few days later.

Actually, the authority has been trying to lower the publicity.No more live broadcasting of the mass swim event this year.Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning even told the public the Pearl River water cleanup need more effort,still far from for daily swimming.Not much lip-playing with the slogan of achievement of cleanup anymore.They must realize the difficult in handling the pollution problem,whilst the public expectation for clean Pearl River go higher and higher.

When the former party secretary of Guangzhou's administration Lin Shuseng determined to launched the first mass swimming event last year,the media was dominated with suspicion for such extravagance.One year later,when the swim event was listed in the government's agenda again, the media could no longer just cast distrust upon it.I believe,more and more people would come to discuss the pollution issue after the consecutive annual event, have their judgement, and take action in the future time.

曼谷之行

    湿冷的天气，鼻塞，有些难受。     发觉自己很需要一套温暖的床褥被子，真的，对于一个单身汉而言，床铺真的没有吸引力。医生建议或忠告说，要保证睡眠时间，必然你的身体状况难以改善，年纪不饶人了。她说得一点都不错，很可惜，虽然我一直下决心要对自己身体好一点，却总是做不到。肉体与灵魂，就是相互打架的冤家――如果我还有灵魂的话。     对亚航的印象很不错，即使机舱服务员不提供"免费"的饮食，我也觉得他们比国内航空公司的空姐空少更加友好可亲。当然，可能我对泰国人――尤其是华人，太有热爱的感情了，或者是因为亚航的票价和机舱饮食都相当亲民，我由衷地喜欢上他们。这次选择到澳门乘坐亚航班机，唯一的遗憾，澳门依然不能给我太好印象，海关效率无法与香港比较，唯一的赌场卖点又不招人喜欢，机场物价奇高，好在机场上网免费，算是一个小小弥补。     在会议上碰到一些熟人，东西方中心的故人自然不必说，而再次见到前年的一些同行――包括印度、日本和越南的同行，却是意外之喜。其实没有什么交情或沟通可言，但是想到人生能有如此不期的重逢，总觉得有缘分的牵挂真好。这两年来跑了一些地方、场合，此类的情形大概会越来越多？其实，这样小小的惊喜，我都津津有味地拿出来希望分享，也是因为自己太"寂寞难耐"了吧。我已经知道，之所有"爱上"自己拍摄质量不怎么样的数码相机，仅仅因为它是越洋陪伴并且记录自己轨迹的一个忠实伴侣而已。我并不热衷于拍摄，更讨厌整理相片――其实，还是心中没有生活分享的对象吧。    在很多场合，我是被推出去的，自觉没有太多思想准备，言语或观察积累也没有到火候，就以特定的标签符号给摆出来了。譬如，来自中国大陆，这个神秘却又强大的土地，我已经有了充当国际代表的义务，原来这个程序不需要官方的钦定，也不需要民众的投票决定，我诚惶诚恐地已经站到了这样的位置。当然，我不掩饰自己的勇气，也不忌惮暴露自己的笨拙，也总是在思考如何能做得更好。这样的压力一直推着我，也有些焦虑，似乎做得不太好。

Migrant worker writers

Feng37 told me the other day that he was planing to translate the poems of Zheng Xiaoqiong（郑小琼）,a grass-rooted poet who is better known as migrant workers in Dongguan(东莞 known as a hub of world manufacturing sector),.Feng37 quoted  a few lines written by Zheng,that is- there are over forty thousands cut fingers of migrant workers in Pearl River Delta,it occur to me from time to time,how long it would be when put together and lined up?I regret that my powerless words can't not even fix one of them- 　　"珠江三角洲有4万根以上断指，我常想，如果把它们都摆成一条直线会有多长 ，而我笔下瘦弱的文字却不能将任何一根断指接起来……"   I came across the statistics of migrant worker's cut figures occasionally but read it from some advocates' reporting or writing ,calling for an independent workers union.I failed to comprehensive the strong feeling shared by Zheng who works at the assembling line all day long.I even felt sorry it was Feng37 as "an outside" that remind me of that emotional lines.Please forgive me, fe...

暴力、革命與社運 趙剛 中國時報 A15/時論廣場 2006/09/07 喜歡，或不喜歡，暴力這個議題，已悄悄地進到當前這個不安狀態的核心地帶。 林正杰事件後，黨國機器的宣傳，迅速強調此一「倒扁」運動具有潛在暴力性格，並同時以回歸法治與理性為基調，呼籲心平氣和、靜待司法。此時，也有文化人衣帶飄飄、高明自居地垂問：「台灣人，你為何要生氣？」 我也不喜歡暴力──這還需要表態嗎？掂掂自己，我大概也不敢暴力。但是，只需要些許世故，卻又足以讓一個人對公開譴責暴力的聲音警惕萬分。何以然？歷史經驗告訴我們，公開反對暴力的，常常是手握暴力的，而他反對暴力，恰恰是為了要解除別人的暴力，以便擴充自己的暴力。這種修辭的暴力，或是暴力的修辭，特別當它是來自國家機器時，自主公民當付之以橫眉冷笑。 既然暴力是這麼一個敏感的、複雜的、反身的，與政治、與倫理糾結不清的重要議題，那麼，嚴肅思考並面對它，可能正是以論述公理為職志的自主公民或公共知識份子所不能迴避的。 日昨李丁讚教授的〈民主、社運、革命〉一文，正是進入這個討論的一重要嘗試。該文的主要論點是：一個成熟的民主社會必須告別革命，因為革命就是以暴力手段變更政權的活動；但此民主社會同時也要和反暴力的社運相結合，因為後者能促成好的政策與價值。由於這篇文章所牽涉的問題頗為重要，我願意就兩點進行討論，其一、革命是什麼，是否應告別革命；其二、公民有無正當暴力之可能。 關於革命。李丁讚說「革命」是以武力更換政權，「社運」的目標則是「政策」或「價值」。在這裡，李丁讚把「革命」與「政變」（ coup d'etat）混同了。項羽式的「彼可取而代之」，不是革命，革命是整個社會體制的結構性轉換，以及革命者的自我轉換。當今這個世界是不是已經走到了文明的盡頭，完全沒有革命的可能，仍是一個開放的問題。 越來越多的人（本人在內）相信這樣的一種「全球化」進程（例如市場化邏輯的無限擴張、地球環境不可逆轉的毀敗、全球與民族國...
